WordCamp NYC happens on August 1-3 this year. Not only have we added it to our firm's ‘can’t-miss’ list of events each year, but we’re also sponsoring it. If you live in the area and are still on the fence, here are 8 reasons to get your tickets now:
1. You’re really into open source, but haven’t been to a Meetup in months. Come contribute to WordPress core on Contributor Day on Friday, August 1, 2014, at the New York Times’ building. Spend a whole day writing, designing, developing, and testing.
2. You learn best by live-action show & tells. Richard Dinh, NorthPoint Digital Senior Consultant, will present a session on “WordPress Examples Toolkit: Keep it Simple and Learn by Example.” Richard will demo a set of example plugins that show you how to perform some of the most commonly used, and yet sometimes complex WordPress tasks. This session will be held on Saturday, August 2nd at 10am.
3. You’ve been doing WordPress sites for years, but still feel like a newbie sometimes. Join the club. Plug in to the WordPress NYC community (wpnyc.org) and the WordPress NYC Meetup group. Or find a different meetup in your city.
4. You don’t want to admit it, but you still haven’t mastered NONCE tools (Numbers Used Once). Attend Cal Evans’ session Saturday August 2nd at 3:30pm, “NONCE Upon a Time in WordPress”.
5. You’ve always wanted to be a WordCamp speaker. Don’t miss this talk, which walks you through the steps of selecting a compelling topic and presenting like a pro.
6. You want to generate WordPress buzz for your company. Consider sponsoring a WordCamp. Catch up with NorthPoint Digital at this year’s WordCamp NYC to see why we love sponsoring these events.
7. You love running into cool people in the hallways and at Saturday night drinks.
8. You don’t live in NYC, but don’t want to miss out on the WordPress community. Find another WordCamp in your area. (WordCamp Boston is coming up. Learn more.) According to WordPress.org, there have been more than 56 held so far in more than 20 countries, and another 15 on the calendar before the end of the year. If you miss out on WordCamp NYC, there are plenty more to attend.
